Today is the four week anniversary of Eva's birth. Her first month has been filled with many firsts, several of which are documented here...

AT HOME WITH BABY EVA
Today is Eva's 2 week birthday, and what a wonderful two weeks it has been. Although she's been with us only 14 days, I can't imagine our life without her.
The trip home from the hospital was filled with anxiety and excitement. We dressed her in the oh-so-anticipated 'home from the hospital outfit' (a pink and white striped sun dress from her Aunt Marnie in Palm Springs with a Susan Deans original pink daisy headband.) Then after Logan spent 30 minutes figuring out how to fasten the car seat base in the back seat of the Plymouth Breeze, we strapped Eva into her carseat for the first time and embarked on our great adventure. I chose the backseat next to my new buddy and cringed at every turn, braking stop and lane change until we reached the pharmacy (to pick up my treasured pain pill prescription) and then our home. We walked into a gorgeously clean and cool home (thanks to mom) that smelled of stargazer lilies (thanks to a beautiful flower arrangement from our dear Denver friends the Morks.) We immediately stripped off Eva's 'home from the hospital outfit' and she spent the rest of the day in one of her many lace-collared onsies (another Susan Deans original.)
She had her first bath next to the kitchen sink, but the real fun started when her umbilical cord fell off at about 1 week. Since then she hasn't missed a single shower with Dad, or bubble bath with mom. Nothing like a naked slippery newborn in the tub to start your day off right!
She felt immediately at home in her nursery (I'm sure she appreciated the perfect shade of pink I selected, and the three trips to Jones Paint and Glass that it took to mix such a perfect shade!) Some of her favorite things include the nature sounds on her mobile, the comatose feeling of a tummy full of milk, singing songs (or listening rather), being swaddled in a soft blanket made by Grandma Abo (as my mom will be called), playing dress ups, and posing for glamour shots as I, the amateur photographer capture every moment.
Eva's fashion sense is evolving nicely thanks to a seemingly endless supply of Susan Deans original accessories. Every visit from Grandma Deans comes complete with her latest embellished masterpiece to complete any outfit. Eva has a personalized beaded name bracelet, pink feathered slippers, underwear (onsies) more elegant than anything offered at Victoria's Secret, a jeweled binkie with the most gorgeous hand beaded sterling silver clip to attach to all of her outfits, and hats and headbands in every variety of ribbon, bow, and bloom. In addition to fabulously elegant accessories, Grandma Susan brings incredible edibles with nearly every visit...Dunford Double Dutch doughnuts, homemade crescent rolls, strawberry and cream cheese stuffed French toast... I couldn't have chosen a more perfect mother in law if I'd crafted her myself! Fashion and Food, two of my very highest priorities!
My daily responsibilities have focused, like never before, on the bodily functions of one very cute 8.5 lb baby girl. I thought when Logan insisted that I write into the blog this evening, what do I have to report? Immediately my mind turned to the full notebook sitting on my bed containing record of said bodily functions...every diaper change and a detailed report of the contents...every ounce consumed, pumped, mixed, and frozen...every nap taken and not taken... every teaspoon of Desitin spread...yes it is consuming. And honestly, aside from my scriptures, I have never valued a piece of writing more.
We have loved receiving visitors, and Eva has loved making new friends. We are still working on the rules of etiquette like tongue in mouth - even after a big meal, and being alert and happy when friends come to visit - even if you are hungry or sleepy. But she is catching on nicely and will be a cotillion starlet before long!
Life with Eva is grand. Logan and I lay in bed at night exhausted and completely happy questioning,'how did we get this lucky?' We are counting our blessings and can't count that high...Life with Eva is grand.
