Baby Jane Esther Deans

Jane Esther Deans made her grand entrance in dramatic fashion on Tuesday, July 29th at 1:10pm.

I woke up early (4:45) Tuesday morning and called Logan (who was on his way to Oakland with some friends for an early AM temple session) with the usual news that I had just had the funniest dream of my life and I wanted to give him the gist before I fell back asleep and forgot. He laughed, promised to remember the details, and told me about the delicious hot donut he was eating.

I woke up again at 5:45 when my mom called to check in and see how I was feeling. Slightly annoyed with her obvious baby excitement 11 days before the baby was even due I told her nothing was happening and I'd call her after my next Doctor's appointment that afternoon.

I woke up again at 8:00 when my water broke. So Hollywood...just like in the movies! I called Logan (now on his way home from Oakland) who couldn't believe the news and heard the hoots and hollers of his buddies in the car. He promised to get home as soon as possible and they sped down the Dumbarton Bridge at 90 mph and ran 5 stoplights to make it in 10 minutes. Meanwhile I called the hospital and started frantically throwing cameras, snacks, contact solution and pink onesies into a bag. We dropped Eva with our good friends the Haymores and headed to Sequoia Hospital to have a baby, calling our parents on the way. Mom got on the next flight and arrived in time to bring Eva over to meet her new sister that evening.

We arrived at the hospital at 9am, were checked in, hooked up and ready for action by 10am, and then we basically relaxed (Logan had lunch, I continued to crave the hot donut Logan had bragged about) until it was time to start pushing around 12:45pm. After a fairly quick and quite exciting labor, our sweet baby girl arrived.

Jane is named for Logan's great grandmother Jane Mclean who was known for being fiercely loyal, uncommonly kind, and making the best pies in Plain City, Utah. And for Logan's great, great grandmother Jane Sprunt Warner who immigrated from Scotland and crossed the plains with the Mormon pioneers. And for my Auntie Jane Darger Thomas, quite possibly the most loving individual we know.

Ready for delivery and reporting for duty.
8 lbs 11 oz and 20 inches long... we're counting our blessings that she came 11 days early or we would have delivered a 10 lb Thanksgiving turkey, not a baby girl. Dark hair, big lips, round cheeks, two chins, and a 'V' for 'Victory' stamped on her forehead.

Baby Jane endured the loving pokes and prods that came with the exploration and admiration of her perfect
little body by doctors, nurses and visitors alike.
Two of Jane's biggest fans - Wonderful Anne and Wonderful Mimi...we did ask that all guests wear pink.
The first teeny tiny ultrasound of her great big heart.
Sleepy, soft, snugly.
